"...largest spring gathering of Bald eagles in the world"

Artic Tern

Southeast Alaska features a varied habitat of sea, beach, estuary, rainforest, thicket and meadow that provide a home for 160 species of nesting birds. Counting migrants and vagrants, the species count is over 300.

In the spring, scoter, phalarope, loon, and sea ducks like Barrow’s Goldeneye follow the Inside Passage north in enormous numbers. Geese and shorebird refuel by the thousands at the important Stikine Delta stopover. And the largest population of Bald Eagles on the planet resides here. The Eagles that mass for the Eulachon run count as the largest spring gathering of Bald Eagles in the world.

The problem, of course, is access. Let the live-aboard Alaska Sea Adventures guide you through this fabulous bird habitat during the peak of the spring migration. Learn more about our custom birding adventures here.
